Wedding Policy

Congratulations to you on this most important decision!

Our prayer is that your marriage will be joyous and fulfilling.  Leland Community

UMC is honored to assist you in planning a sacred and meaningful wedding service.

Worshipping together bonds a couple and if you do not have a church home, please

consider joining us for worship as you begin your marriage.

Reservation for the wedding is made through the Church Office 231-256-9161.  Our sanctuary holds 200-225 people.

Leland Community UMC promotes a substance free environment. No smoking, drugs, or alcohol usage is permitted in the building or on the grounds.

The Pastor of Leland Community UMC is in charge of all weddings performed at the church, and has the final say over service, music, church usage, and fees.

Our Pastor:   We require that the bride and groom attend a minimum of two counseling sessions (1 ½ -3 hours each) with our Pastor.  During this time, the Pastor can help you work out the wedding arrangements.  If your plans include the use of another pastor, they must be ordained and approved by Leland Community’s Pastor.

Wedding Representative:  Our wedding representative will contact you after the wedding is scheduled.  She will be at the church fifteen minutes before the rehearsal and remain afterwards as needed.  The wedding party and the representative will mutually agree on the parties’ arrival time at the church prior to the wedding. The representative will remain at the church until the wedding party leaves.  She will assist the Pastor at the rehearsal and be able to assist you in making the wedding go smoothly.

Church Organist:  Our organist will be available for wedding music consultation, for the rehearsal, working with a soloist, and will provide music before and after the service.  If you want a different organist, it must be cleared with our Pastor.  Wedding music, whether traditional or contemporary, must be appropriate for the occasion.

Sound & Video Technician:  Special arrangements must be made if you plan to use either recorded music and/or a DVD.  Our equipment can only be used by one of our technicians.

Rehearsal:     Allow one hour for the rehearsal.  Please bring the license to the rehearsal for signatures. Applications are made at the Leelanau County Clerk’s Office (231-256-9824).

Men’s Dressing Areas:  The Anni Baker Room is available for the groom and his attendants.  When you leave, this room must be returned to the condition it was in before the wedding party arrived.

Women’s Dressing Areas:  The downstairs facilities are available for the bride and her attendants.  When you leave, this area must be returned to the condition it was in before the wedding party arrived.

Sanctuary Furnishings:  Two, three-candle candelabras, and two flower stands are available for use.  Any seasonal decorations will remain in the Sanctuary during the wedding unless special arrangements are made.

Wedding Photography/Video Taping:  Wedding pictures can be scheduled before and after the service. No flash photography is allowed in the Sanctuary during the service.   A professional photographer may shoot discreetly from places approved by the Pastor.  Video taping is permitted from specific locations.  Check with the wedding coordinator regarding video taping.

Fellowship Hall:  If you wish to use the Fellowship Hall for your Rehearsal Dinner or Reception, please call the Church Office for details.

Weddings with fewer than 50 people may be considered for a fee adjustment by the Pastor.  For non-members, we require a 50% deposit of the total fees at the time the church is reserved.  The remaining balance is due two weeks prior to the wedding. For members, no deposit is required, but all fees must be paid two weeks prior to the wedding.  Discretionary funds are available to those in need to help defray the costs.

Deposits are fully refundable up to two weeks prior to the wedding.

Please fill out the wedding application form and return with your deposit check (payable to LCUMC) to:
